Nova Southeastern Overtakes Lead At Golfweek's Spring Invitational

Reunion, Fla. (Feb. 8, 2010) - The Nova Southeastern University men's golf team leaped into first place, overtaking seven other teams, at the Golfweek's Spring Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Reunion resort. The Sharks shot a second round team low score of 292 to claim the lead heading into the final round of play.

Senior Byron White (Bradenton, Fla.) led the Sharks charge, posting a one-over par 73 on the heels of a one-over par 73 in the first round. His 146 total score placed him tied for eighth place among the 90 players in competition. Junior Jack Bartlett (Worthing, England) followed a team low first round score of 71 with a 76 in the second round, falling back to a tie for 13th place. Sophomore Ben Vertz (Coral Springs, Fla.) posted the low round of the second day for NSU, carding a one-under par 71 to vault into a tie for 17th place.

The Sharks (+13, 589) hold a two stroke lead over South Region rival West Florida (+15, 591) and a three stroke lead over Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn University (+16, 592). Lander University (+18, 594), the first round leader, fell back to fourth place. Chico State (+20, 596) rounds out the top five.

Lynn's Steven Brame (140) holds the individual lead at four-under par. He shot a one-over par 73 a day after carding a five-under 67 in the opening round.

The Golfweek Spring Invitational will conclude with a single round on the morning of Tuesday, February 9th.
