Lancers Lead CSU San Marcos Invitational
SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- The NAIA’s No. 42-ranked California Baptist University shot a 285 in the second round of the Cal State San Marcos Invitational Monday afternoon and trails No. 6 Holy Names by just four strokes heading into Tuesday’s final round.

The Lancers followed up an opening-round 301 with the low round of the tournament thus far. Their 36-hole total of 586 is 12 strokes better than Cal State Dominguez Hills and just four away from Holy Names’ 582.

The 285 is just one stroke shy of the program record of 284 set this past fall at the Holy Names Invitational. It is just the fourth round ever under 290.

“This has kind of been or MO this year,” said Head Coach Lane Pace. “We always seem to come out a little sluggish in the morning and then just pick it up in the afternoon to get in contention. If we can play the final round like we finished today then we’ve got a pretty good shot at winning this thing. I’m really proud of the way the guys played this afternoon.”

Carl-Johan Stjarnfalt shot a program-record 66 in the second round to key his way to a 36-hole total of 141 (75-66), which puts him in first place heading into the final round. Stjarnfalt leads Ryan Indouina of Cal State Dominguez Hills, who finished with a 142 (72-70).

Ryan Kelley is right behind Stjarnfalt, shooting a consistent 144 (72-72), putting him in fourth place. Frederick Hansson is tied for 17th after shooting a 149 (79-70). O’Neil Cown is 31st with a 155 (78-77), and Chris Rabbich is tied for 37th with a 157 (76-81).

There are 12 teams and 62 players in the tournament. The final round begins Tuesday morning.
