by TheSunDevils.cstv.com (10/18/2009)

The Arizona State women's golf team held off a third round rally from UCLA to take the team title at the Stanford Intercollegiate. With four players finishing in the top 10, the returning NCAA Champions carded a 12-under 840 (273-282-285) to win by four strokes over the Bruins. The Sun Devils have enjoyed recent success at the par 71, 6,156-yard Stanford Golf Course as the team won last year's Pac-10 Championship there as well as the 2007 Stanford Intercollegiate. The tournament also marks the 19th time the Sun Devils have won under head coach Melissa Luellen.

"We're thrilled to have our second victory of the season," said Luellen. "It got very close today, but we hung on."

Carlota Ciganda shot a 5-under 208 (67-70-71) to finish runner-up to USC's Jennifer Song. Her second-place finish is the sixth time the Spanish sophomore has carded a top five placing.

Senior Juliana Murcia shot par in the final round to secure her third top 20 finish of the season. Murcia, who earned second team All-American honors last season, finished tied for par after carding a 4-under 209 (70-68-71).

Jennifer Johnson and Jaclyn Sweeney tied for sixth, as each earned their second top 10 finish of the season. Johnson rounded out her second collegiate appearance by shooting par in the final round to finish 1-under 212 (69-72-71) while Sweeney notched a 2-over 73 in the final round to shoot 1-under 212 (67-72-73) over the course of the tournament. Giulia Molinaro had her best round of the tournament, shooting a 1-over 72. With a 7-over 220 (75-73-72), Molinaro finished tied for 33rd.
